The Rands Trucking Story
1982 - The First Truck
With hard work, determination, and a clear vision, Bill Rands founded Rands Trucking in 1982 with just two trucks. What started as a small operation grew through the dedication of a great team and the continued support of the local community.
1986 - Our First Terminal
In 1986, we opened our first office and shop in Ladysmith, Wisconsin, and officially became a corporation. More than 40 years later, Ladysmith is still home to our headquarters and remains an important part of who we are.
1995 - Windows and Doors
Rands Trucking signed its first major contract with Norco Windows in Hawkins, Wisconsin. This partnership marked the beginning of our specialization in hauling multi-stop, touch freight, with a focus on windows, doors, and other construction materials.
2009 - Rands Logistics Opens
In 2009, Rands Logistics was founded to expand our services and better serve both our customers and drivers. The addition of Rands Logistics allowed us to provide more flexible transportation solutions while continuing to build on the relationships that have always been at the heart of our company.
2011 - Chippewa Falls
Rands Trucking expanded to Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, establishing Chippewa Sand Transport and opening our second terminal. Today, the Chippewa Falls terminal remains home to many of our local drivers and continues to be an important part of our operations.
2015 - Medford
As Rands Trucking continued to grow, we expanded to Medford, Wisconsin, strengthening our ability to serve customers throughout the region and country. The terminal has become an important part of our operations, supporting the drivers and freight that have helped define Rands for decades!
2016 - Remodel
Our Ladysmith headquarters received a much-needed makeover and expansion. We added more office space downstairs along with a new driver lounge complete with couches, TVs, computers, and printers—everything our drivers might need after a long day or week on the road. We also added new bathrooms, washers and dryers, and a full kitchen, creating a comfortable space where our drivers can relax, recharge, and feel at home while they’re here.
2020 - Covid
During the COVID-19 pandemic, our team remained resilient and continued to move forward. Despite the uncertainty and challenges facing the trucking industry, we continued to grow our customer base, welcome new drivers, and keep freight moving. While much of the world slowed down, our team kept pushing forward and doing what we do best.

2026 - Current Day
Today, Rands Trucking operates more than 160 trucks across the continental United States and Canada. From our three Wisconsin terminals, our team continues to move freight across the country while building lasting relationships with our customers and drivers. What started with just two trucks in 1982 has grown into a company that remains family-owned, driver-focused, and committed to doing things the right way.
